Which implant is proposed, and which details will my implant card record?

What is the long-term imaging plan for this implant?

Breast implants are not lifetime devices, so the chance of removal, exchange or another operation rises with time and may bring separate costs. Silicone-gel rupture can be silent, whereas saline deflation is usually noticed by a change in size or shape. FDA guidance describes MRI as the most effective test for a silent silicone rupture and ultrasound as an acceptable screen when there are no symptoms. For silicone implants, the FDA labelling schedule is a first ultrasound or MRI at 5–6 years, then every 2–3 years; symptoms or an unclear ultrasound warrant MRI. Which changes around an implant need assessment, and how would they be investigated?

Contracture is tightening of the scar capsule: Baker I is soft and natural, II slightly firm but natural, III firm and distorted, and IV firm, painful and distorted. Severe III–IV cases may need another operation and contracture can return. Displacement, rupture, swelling, asymmetry or a new lump also need clinical assessment. Persistent swelling or pain may require examination, imaging and fluid or tissue assessment. BIA-ALCL is a lymphoma, not breast cancer; confirmed disease generally requires removal of implant and capsule and some people need oncology treatment. Fatigue, brain fog and joint pain are sometimes called breast implant illness, but its cause is uncertain and removal cannot be promised to resolve it. Where is the incision planned, and what asymmetry or scarring may remain?

The plan should name the incision, pocket and scar position for your anatomy. Existing differences in size, shape or level may not fully disappear. In an exchange, the prior scar is often reused, but its location, thin tissue and the capsule can limit that choice.
